Overview Sneak attack planned by Japanese at Midway Atoll Midway Atoll located 1100 miles northwest of Hawaii Japanese planned to destroy the majority of the remaining US Pacific fleet Japanese committed majority of their fleet towards the invasion US committed majority of fleet to guard Midway

Japanese Code US Intel intercepted Japanese code which included vital information for the battle Japanese planned to lure American aircraft carriers into a trap Code also included date and location of the attack The broken code allowed Americans to set up a surprise attack

The Battle Battle Started June 4, 1942 Japanese bombers attack the island after an unsuccessful US attack on Japanese fleet Majority of the battle was fought through the air

The Battle (cont.) American planes attacked Japanese bombers while they were refueling creating massive fires on the ships The Americans sank three of the for Japanese carriers early on
