I took Distance Learning because: ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ I wanted to take the most foreign language I could before entering college I was interested in learning more in depth about the holocaust . I wanted to take psychology and it was the only class that offered it The class I wanted to take was only available to me though DL. Latin isn't offered at my school as a regular class. I needed Mythology and this is the only period where it fit in my schedule. I wanted to take AP Statistics to get ready for college. I am interested in Psychology and Statistics is a class I would take in college so I decided to get it out of the way. What did you like about Distance Learning? ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ What I like is that you get to meet people from other schools and learn at the same time Interacting with kids from other schools the whole experience was new and interesting. That we could have conversations with peers from other schools who were in the same class. It’s a good way to meet and discuss things with other people using the technology is also a plus The technology and the whole idea of distance learning is great and the fact that I got to interact with students from other schools was neat. The interesting class debates and the people I got a chance to meet through this class People in another school who didn't have a teacher available for this class were still able to take it. What didn’t you like about Distance Learning? ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ That the two systems had some trouble in the middle of the year and that there was a terrible echo. The problems with communication and the technical problems we encountered Moderate glitches that needed working out. Less attention from the host site compared to a regular class. How the other classes that weren't the host didn't participate as much as we had to. The bell system and having to wait for others to come on. It took up time to wait. The bells were not in sync between the two schools. How the teacher isn't available one-on one It was hard to make up work missed from the other room. What changes would you suggest for the Distance Learning classes? ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Having a time schedule that works with all the DL sites. Do something about he times that the classes are both on because each class missed about 10 minutes.Try to coordinate times. Buttons so the camera could be operated from the students. Have kids speak loud and clear. Better audio system to eliminate "ghost sounds." Have the teacher come to our school at least once. Have field trips to different schools. The teacher needs to give the same amount of attention to every school that is taking the course. You need to choose students who are self motivated, respectful students. If there are students who aren't focused, motivated and who are always distracting it makes it hard for others to learn and pay attention. What surprised you about Distance Learning? ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ It was like every other class I took. I learned as easily as in other classes. I figured it wouldn't be as good as having a teacher in a regular class, I was wrong. How well we communicated with the other 2 schools and how cool the technology was. How quickly I was able to adjust, how normal a class it was. How quick and efficient it all is it like I'm right there with my class. It is a very advanced setup with many capabilities. You could record classes if you missed one Being able to work so well with other schools. I was surprised how used to the system I became. He provided us an email address so we could contact him personally. She called me at home or I called her for help. Our teacher always tried to make us hear her and understand her when she thought we couldn't. She answered questions of both classes and tried her best to make sure the other class could hear and understand what she was saying. When systems were not working he'd fax. He made an extra effort to engage the other students. The teacher makes sure I get homework and makes personal visits. We all got together a couple of times.
