ECONOMICS Number of classes per week: 5/6 ECONOMICS is regarded as the most practical business subject and is the study of how people manage limited resources such as money to meet their goals. Key Topics: Macroeconomics: deals with factors affecting the whole community. You will study Banking, International Trade & Finance, The EU & the role of the government. Microeconomics: is the study of individual markets. ASSESSMENT: Higher & Ordinary Level: One Paper – 2.5 hour paper Section A – 9 Qs do 6 (100 marks) Section B – 8 Qs do 4 (75 each, 300 in total). Large element of choice here.

Best Aspect of Subject: Career Possibilities: Note: There are no projects, practical aspects, field trips, etc. Teacher may include project work but it is not a requirement of the syllabus. There is a common syllabus covering Higher & Ordinary level, which will fulfil the aims & objectives Best Aspect of Subject: It helps students to develop a clear understanding of the role of Economics, to encourage the development of appropriate learning skills, and to generate in students a positive and ethical attitude to Economics in personal, business and public life. Career Possibilities: All Business courses require an Economics content so having this subject is an advantage and is useful for careers in Banking, Insurance, Journalism, Politics, Administration, Trade Unions, Finance & Marketing. Full time Economist in large corporations and agencies including the government departments, Stock Broking agencies & voluntary agencies. Comment: This subject is suited to students who are willing to work hard & caters for all abilities. It is not necessary to have studied Junior Certificate Business Studies. Ideally, students should have a general interest in how the economy works.
