Video of the Day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnSg5_zLfGM

Bell Work 3-5 What is the difference between NATO and the Warsaw Pact? Stalin blocked off certain parts of Berlin and the US flew supplies over the blockaded area of Berlin. What was this event called?

Issues in Berlin? Not over. West Berlin-Democratic East Berlin-Communist Low pay in the East, people ran West. Angered, Russian government built the Berlin Wall.

The Arms Race USA & Russia competing with each other. Nuclear weapons are widespread. “MAD”- Mutually Assured Destruction. If one fires nuclear weapons, so does the other.

Cold War– Cuban Missile Crisis Fidel Castro Communist Overthrows the Cuban leader Nationalized businesses & government control of land.

If you have no clue where Cuba is….

If you haven’t paid any attention till now, THE USA DISLIKES COMMUNISTS. DEMOCRACIES AND COMMUNISTS DON’T MIX.

Bay of Pigs Invasion USA tries to get rid of Castro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsQMwtOlNPw Invade Cuba, but it fails miserably. Those that invaded are captured, it’s really awkward.

Things get tense. Russia puts nukes in Cuba. JFK/America on the brink of Nuclear war.

JFK gets risky. USA imposes Naval Blockade on Cuba. Demanded that Russian nukes are gone. Soviets withdraw peacefully, American Crisis is averted.
