Texans won an important victory in 1835 when they liberated San Antonio from Mexican control. The Battle of the Alamo The Battle of the Alamo occurred on March 6,1836. General Santa Anna led the Mexican forces; Colonel Travis led the Texans. The defenders of the Alamo had given Sam Houston’s army enough time to prepare to fight Santa Anna.

The Struggle for Independence Texas Declares Its Independence On March 2,1836, Texas declares independence. The Goliad Massacre was when Mexican General Santa Anna ordered the execution of captured American troops outside Goliad.
