Our Journey Together Week 10

Philippians 2:5 “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:” NIV

Review Part Eight: Refocusing The

REFOCUS Your MIND IN THE GAP You move towards what you are focused on

REFOCUS Your MIND IN THE GAP Your thought life is the track the train of your life runs on

REFOCUS Your MIND IN THE GAP If my thoughts are negative I am going to behave negative, choose the negative and reap the negative.

REFOCUS Your MIND IN THE GAP If my thoughts are based in faith (which is always positive) I am going to behave positive, choose the positive and reap the positive.

Philippians 2:5 “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:” NIV

`Philippians 4:8 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate (think) on these things. (NKJV)

Tool 1 – Logic ~ “Think” The word for (meditate) “think” used here in the original Greek is logivzesqe (logidsesthe) from which we get our English word “LOGIC”.

Tool 1 – Logic ~ “Think” THINK – Use Logic (logivzesqe) Present Tense- an action right now. Middle vs. Passive voice- requires your involvement. Imperative mood- a command to think this way.

Control yourself through LOGIC and NOT EMOTION Tool 1 – Logic ~ “Think” THINK – Use Logic (logivzesqe) Control yourself through LOGIC and NOT EMOTION

Tool 1 – Logic ~ “Think” THINK – Use Logic (logivzesqe) 2. Jeremiah 17:9 tells you NOT to trust your emotions… “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?”

Tool 1 – Logic ~ “Think” THINK – Use Logic (logivzesqe) 3. REDIRECT to healthy logical thinking instead of reacting with and being controlled by your emotions

Tool 2 – Whatever’s TRUE Meaning – True, truthful, worthy of credit The real stuff ~Not emotional distortions Focus thoughts away from illusions of anxiety and onto the truth Stand on the unchangeable truth of the Bible.

Tool 3 - Whatever’s NOBLE Nobel – The awe inspiring things that cause you to worship God.

Tool 3 - Whatever’s NOBLE Look for the noble in people, places and things, instead of looking for the ignoble. Look for what brings praise to God instead of what prompts criticism of people.

Tool 4 – Whatever’s Just or Right Just –Do what is biblically “Just” or the right thing in the eyes of God. You are called to do the right thing even when your emotions want you to do something else.

Tool 4 – Whatever’s Just or Right Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you, But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?

Tool 4 – Whatever’s Just or Right True godly justice ALWAYS does the right thing according to God’s Law and ALWAYS does it with merciful caring love.

Tool 5 – Whatever’s Pure Pure – Greek  hagna Meaning – to be pure or holy, a sign of the presence of the HOLY Spirit. Pure to the core or pure from the inside out because your thought life controls your lifestyle.

Tool 5 – Whatever’s Pure Keep a pure thought life. Matt 5:27-28 I Tim 5:2 Choose to think pure in a culture which is anti-purity. Your train’s track needs “whatever is pure”.

Tool 5 – Whatever’s Pure Watch out for Derailing Devices

I Corinthians 6:18-20 18 Flee from sexual immorality I Corinthians 6:18-20 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Hebrews 13:4 Hebrews 13:4 “Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.”

Tool 5 – Whatever’s Pure Married Pledge – “Affirming the vow I made before God, I make a commitment to God and my mate, myself, my family and my friends that I will honor my marriage and I pledge to be sexually faithful to my spouse.”

Tool 5 – Whatever’s Pure Singles stay pure, keeping sex for marriage only. Purity Pledge – “Believing that true love waits, I make a commitment to God, myself, my family, those I date, and my future mate to be sexually pure until the day I enter marriage.”

Start new and finish well Tool 5 – Whatever’s Pure Start new and finish well

`Philippians 4:8 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate (think) on these things.
