Wooler – KS3 Field Trip

Tuesday 4th April – Thursday 6th April Dates: Tuesday 4th April – Thursday 6th April

Bus will set off following morning registration on Tuesday Times for both trips Bus will set off following morning registration on Tuesday Pupils will be back on Thursday in time to get their normal school buses

Itinerary for first day - morning Arrive at Wooler Youth Hostel Introduction to Wooler, including rooms where pupils will be staying and rules which need to be followed to ensure all pupils are safe at all times Lunch in the Youth hostel Introduction to Mr Whigfield and the afternoon activities

Itinerary for first day – afternoon and evening Introduction to Wooler and the surrounding area Orienteering on Wooler Common Free time to relax in common room and in the grounds

Itinerary for second day - morning Breakfast Introduction to activities for the day Ecological sampling in shallow stream to look at the animal life present Lunch

Itinerary for second day – afternoon and evening Ecological sampling on rocky shore to compare the animals found with those found in the stream in the morning Dinner Classroom session to discuss activities completed Free time to relax

Itinerary for third day Breakfast Trip to Ford Moss to look at the range of habitats and to carry out some ecological sampling Lunch Coach home in time for normal buses

General issues - accommodation Pupils will be staying in a dormitories containing a mixture of bunk beds and standard single beds

General issues - Behaviour All pupils will be given a briefing in school to remind them of the high behavioural expectations we will have of them We would be really grateful if this message could be reinforced by you before they go

General issues - Equipment Full list should be present on your seat Key point: Packing for cold conditions is advisable! (i.e. lots of layers!) Pack sun cream too – just in case!

General issues - Transport Pupils will be transported by coach using a Northumberland County Council approved company

General issues - Money There is a small tuck shop that pupils will have access to in the evenings Shop sells simple items like sweets / crisps etc.

General issues - Games Pupils are welcome to bring playing cards, games, footballs etc. should they so wish but they need to take responsibility for looking after them. They must also ensure that no damage is done (e.g. play games in the allotted areas away from the windows of the Youth hostel)

General issues – Valuable equipment No mobile phones and/or Wi-Fi enabled devices are to be taken MP3 players / I pods / Electronic games / cameras may be taken at pupil’s own risk

General issues - safety Full risk assessments have been completed and safety issues will be regularly reinforced throughout trip We would be grateful if you could reinforce the need for your son / daughter to follow all instructions they are given to the letter All OMS staff attending the trip and Mr Whigfield have had recent first aid training
