ISDEIV 2014 KAUSHAL PATEL ISDEIV 2014 ORAL C4 247 Outline Introduction Environment for ITER Diagnostic Microwave Diagnostic in ITER: Overview Microwave diagnostic in ITER - ECE diagnostic in Port Plug - The design of inboard (HFS) waveguides - Front-end of LFS Reflectometry Summary and Outlook 2 October 2014 ISDEIV 2014 KAUSHAL PATEL ISDEIV 2014 ORAL C4 247
ITER is twice as large as our largest existing experiments M. Walsh et al., SOFE, 2011 2 October 2014 ISDEIV 2014 KAUSHAL PATEL ISDEIV 2014 ORAL C4 247
Environment of ITER Diagnostic Relative to existing machines, on ITER some of the diagnostic components will be subject to (relative to JET) High neutron ~ 3 x 1018 m-2s-1 and gamma fluxes (up to x 10) Neutron heating 1 MW/m3 (very high) High electron temperatures (up to x 3 to 5) Plasma Current: 15 MA (up to x 3 to 5) Long pulse lengths: 3000 sec (up to x 100) High neutron fluence: 0.3 MW y m-2 in active phase (> 105 ! ) For Instrumentation and Controls relevant are: High magnetic field and radiation levels in port cell Long cables to diagnostic building Other challenges: Materials, Integration in the harsh environment etc. M. ISDEIV 2014 KAUSHAL PATEL ISDEIV 2014 ORAL C4 247 Summary & Outlook Microwave diagnostic at ITER are in preliminary design phase. To check integrity with other diagnostic system within vacuum vessel, port plug and port cell, design review of microwave diagnostic is ongoing. In vessel components of microwave diagnostics are design & protected in such a way it function in ITER environment with least possible maintenance. 2 October 2014 ISDEIV 2014 KAUSHAL PATEL ISDEIV 2014 ORAL C4 247
