VoIP Plans: H.323, SIP and ENUM Penn State University Information and Technology Services Phil Coolick PhilC@psu.edu
Current focus Moving forward with H.323 telephony, replacing 15,000 legacy telephones. Developing additional system features and functions.
Currently We expect to have nearly 1,000 phones installed by the end of this fiscal year. Looking towards expanding our VoIP deployment to other campus locations.
Future plans Improving security and redundancy in the current system and in future VoIP technologies. Develop trunking alternatives to the PSTN circuit model, if that is possible.
Futures Continue to research and test scalable VoIP technologies for future deployment. Monitor vendor and peer institutions deployment strategies for new ideas.
The long view Employ SIP as a transition plan from H.323 Test, then deploy, a model of SIP and ENUM across the network. Illustrate the concept of scalable IP voice transport to vendors and carriers.
