Pertemuan 5 Matakuliah : G0444 / MATERIAL DESIGN and TESTING Tahun : 2009 Pertemuan 5

Example 1 From a course book. (Original version) A private Conversation Last week I went to the theatre. I had a very good seat. The play was interesting but I didn’t enjoy it. A young man and a young woman were sitting behind me. They were talking loudly. I got very angry! I couldn’t hear the actors. I turned round. I looked at the man and the woman angrily. They didn’t pay any attention. In the end, I couldn’t bear it. I turned round again. “I can’t hear a word!” I said angrily. “It’s none of your business”, the young man said rudely. “This is a private conversation !”

How to adapt it Arrange this text into 8 strips of sentences; Cut them off; Disarrange the order of sentences; How to use it This material is used for practising “Writing Skill” : sentence linkage, how to link sentences to form paragraphs. Distribute each strip to students; Ask them to memorize the sentence; Discuss the order of the sentences to form a good story; Ask them to stand in line according to the right order of a story. Every student says their sentence without reading the paper.

How to cut the sentences: Last week I went to the theatre. I had a very good seat. The play was interesting but I didn’t enjoy it. A young man and a young woman were sitting behind me. They were talking loudly. I got very angry ! I couldn’t hear the actors. I turned round. I looked at the man and the woman angrily. They didn’t pay any attention. In the end, I couldn’t bear it. I turned round again. “I can’t hear a word!” I said angrily. “It’s none of your business”, the young man said rudely. “This is a private conversation !”.

2. From a Picture

2. How to adapt and use it : This material is used for practising “asking and answering Time”. Divide the class into students A and B; Ask Ss A to give the correct time for “a mother’s day”, Ask Ss B to give the correct time for “ a worker’s day”. In pairs, Ss asks each other the time for the activities that they don’t know. Ss A asks about “ a worker’s day” and Ss B asks about “ a mother’s day” They use the questions, such as; “What time does she milk feed the baby ?” or “What time does he leave for work?”. Finally, they compare the answers.

3. From a picture for Vocabulary

3. How to adapt and use it : This material is used for studying vocabulary about “illness”. Make a list of vocabulary of illness, such as : a toothache, a headache, broken his leg, cold, a cough, a temperature, etc. Put each word separately on white board ( unordered ). Divide the class into some groups. Ask them to guess the vocabulary. Ask them to stand before the white board. The Ss in front, holds a “flyswatter” to be used to hit the correct word asked. T reads the problem/question, and each representative of the group runs to the board and hit the answer. The first Ss to hit the correct word gets a point.
