Three types of networks exist Advice network – Shows the prominent players in an organisation on whom others depend to solve problems and provide technical information Trust network - Tell which employees share delicate political information and back one another in a crisis Communication network – reveals employees who talk about work related matters on a regular basis
How to best use them Advice networks can uncover source of political conflicts and to achieve strategic objectives Trust Networks often reveal the cause of non routine problems and should be used when implementing a change Communication networks can help identify gaps in Information flow, inefficient use of resources
Do a Network Survey Who do you talk to every day? Who do you go to for help or advice at least once per week? Whom would you recruit to support a proposal of yours that could be unpopular? Whom would you trust to keep in confidence your concerns about a work related issues?
