RA Mission – Our Experience Alex & Lamine, Windhoek, 10 – 13 April 2006 Alex Owusu-Biney

Introduction Prepare & Deliver Training on BCH Namibia – Part of the Biosafety Implementation Project BCH Training – 10 -11th April Risk Assessment Workshop – 12- 13th April Alex Owusu-Biney

Preparation Communication to Contact Point # of Participants & computers Access to Training modules Discussion & Modification of the program Request for presentation of status of Namibian BCH Some received Alex Owusu-Biney

Setting up Lessons Learned No back up for computers including UPS, Generator Power – cut No opportunity for a dry run Alex Owusu-Biney

Training Program Program revised to give room for “hands on experience” for the two studies with case studies Need to review the case studies thoroughly before the training as data keep changing Complementarity of the team to handle raised questions Unanticipated “crash” National Choice Option I plus National Biosafety Web site BCH seen as an obligation Need to link BCH to data input and entry to facilitate science based decision making Alex Owusu-Biney

Photos from Training Room

Training Program Emphasise “national ownership” Status of current nBCH & links with current choice Role of BCH Focal Point critical Involve stakeholders & principal decision makers (if possible) Opportunities for “hands on”

RECOMMENDATIONS Presentation of current status of BCH – a good starting point Prepare with back up material (software, touchlights etc) Project Unit – updates case studies Required materials – available to the countries Post training mentoring Need to link the BCH to national/international obligations & role in decision making Alex Owusu-Biney

Thank You Alex Owusu-Biney
