University of Catania Giuseppe Ronsisvalle

History and Location UniCT is a very old institution. It has been founded in 1434 in the city of Catania which is on the east cost of Sicily just 20 kilometres south of the Etna. The university has know 12 faculties and 67.000 students. It enrols 17.000 students each year coming from all the cities of Sicily which has about 5 million of inhabitants. UniCT has 1300 faculty members and 1200 staff

Legislation The UniCT fully applied the law 509/99 which is in line with the Bologna process. Several first level undergraduate courses are active and are followed by some second level two-years cycles, called “lauree specialistiche”. Both first and second level cycles open the way to First and second level master courses which lasts from a minimum of six months to two years.

Doctorate Courses and Continuing Education After second level graduation, the students can access PhD courses or Specialization courses (mainly in the Health sectors). The UniCT has a Centre for Continuing Education (CARIP) which offers short courses for all the professional in the region and operates in close collaboration with professional bodies and the business sector.

The Centre fo CE The centre for CE has active collaborations with other European institutions having participate to several research project supported by EU (i.e., Equipe, R3L, TheNUCE, and so on). The actual president of the Centre is also the president of the Italian universities network for CE

R3L The purpose of the project was to evaluate if all the providers of LLL services in the Region (schools, universities, local governments, vocational institutions, companies) act as LLL institutions and if the activities are integrated.

Doctorate Courses The UniCT has about a hundred of PhD courses active in all the Faculties. Some of them offers Double or Joint Title with other European and non-European Universities. Doctorate courses may act as providers of CPD for professionals operating in the Region.

High Level of Research UniCt is worldwide known for the level of research in the field of physics, humanities, health safety, history, chemistry, economy, social sciences, languages, political sciences, law, teachers training and so on.
