Presidents of Ireland Senior Room

Dr patrick hillery He was born on the 2nd of May 1923. He was the youngest of four children. In 1951 he was elected as a T.D. And in 1959 he was made Minister for Education. He died on the 12th of April 2008.

Eamon De valera Eamon de Valera moved to Ireland at age two. In 1913 he joined the Irish Volunteers, which resisted opposition to Home Rule. In the anti-British Easter Rising in Dublin (1916), he commanded an occupied building and was the last to surrender. De Valera was then made head of Sinn Féin, and although he was opposed to the partition of the country, he became President of Ireland in 1959.

Eamon De valera De Valera was an ardent supporter of the Irish language revival movement and also became a member of Sinn Fein and the Irish Volunteers. After the failure of the 1916 insurrection, he became the senior surviving rebel leader when his death sentence was commuted because of his American birth. He became president of the Irish Republic established by the separatists after their victory in the election of December, 1918.
