Using datalibweb to study the occupational structure in ECA Iván Torre (consultant, ECACE) July 17th, 2017

Context Ongoing project on “Distributional Tensions and the Social Contract in ECA” Focus on different dimensions of inequality: age inequality, spatial inequality, mobility, labor market inequalities One possible source of distributional tension: changes in occupations (de-routinization of jobs) Quite a few studies for USA and Western Europe, but almost none for ECA Need to gather information on occupations in ECA. ISCO classification of occupations at 4-digit is the ideal standard.

Occupational structure in ECA Starting point: ECAPOV harmonized datasets, module 2. ISCO 1 DIGIT 

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia Check harmonized dataset to start with

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia Need to get the information at a more detailed level

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia Check do files that harmonize the data to track the original raw data

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia Need to find this raw dataset and look for q28

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia Check for tblshinda05_1.dta

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia Check for q28

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia 4 digit data! 

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia Just to be sure, we check the actual wording of the question. Need to look for the questionnaire.

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia Actual wording of question 28 Need to verify which is the actual classification used

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia Look for technical information about the survey

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia Look for technical information about the survey Good! Not exactly ISCO-88 but close. Can use at 3 digit may be

Occupational structure in ECA: Georgia Job done!

Routine task intensity (Goos et al. 2014) Data for Western Europe Occupations with high risk of automation represent a very small portion of employment in Georgia, differently to Western Europe
