Schools Are Safer Than Ever for Children Incidences of school crime have decreased over the past decade. Between 1992 and 2001, the rate of non-fatal violent crimes and assault against students dropped from 48 per 1000 students to 28 per 1000. Homicides on school premises also dropped from 34 in 1992 to 14 in 2001.
