What is Photography? In your group, discuss what you think photography is and choose one member to write your answer on the board. Take 5 minutes Be ready to share

What is Photography? Basically, photography is a combination of visual imagination/design and the process of producing images on a sensitized surface using light. Why do you want to take photographs? What is actually involved? What roles do photographs play, relative to other ways of making pictures or expressing information and ideas? What makes a photo good or bad?

Facets of Photography One of the first attractions of photography for many people is the equipment itself. Modern technology to fit hand and eye The actual process of photography The process gives you the means of capturing what YOU see and taking pictures of things around you without having to actually draw it. The camera is sort of like a time machine.

Facets of Photography Visual structuring of photographs Designing pictures – lines, shapes, balance, cropping and framing. Truthful way of recording something. You want to show what is going on. Photography is evidence. Personal self-expression

Daily Grade Discuss in your groups what facet of photography each of you are most interested in On your own: Write one paragraph explaining what facet of photography you are most interested in and why you want to become a better photographer!

Daily Grade As a class we will take “1st Week of School” photographs. Practice using your cameras! Try to capture what the 1st week of school really entails Examples: Lost students Frantic teachers Lots of talking/catching up!
