Presentation transcript:

Aim:How can we practice listening on biology? Do now: Match the following vocabulary with the pictures. cloning, reseachers, genes, twins, heredity

1.Which phrase helps explain the meaning of heredity? Written instructions you get from your parents Passing of traits from parents to children A single gene causes our blood type How quickly you learn a language

2. Which sentence from the passage demonstrates that the narrator is speaking to the listener? Genes provide an individual with traits that worked for previous generations. The ability to think and respond to the environment helps an individual survive in its lifetime. You may not pay soccer well at first, but with practice you can improve. Scientists have studied sets of twins who were separated early in life, often at birth.

3.Which sentence from the passage explains why scientists are debating human cloning? Some plants and animals reproduce by making clones. A clone is an exact copy of its lone parent, with all traits the same. Researchers expect a certain number of failed experiments before making a successful clone. Dolly, the first sheep clone, lived half as long as regular sheep.

4.Which of the author’s word choices helps you infer that there a is debate on whether a trait is influenced by genes, by nature, or by learning? Do they learn to be People sometimes argue c. especially interested in comparing d. can affect some inherited traits

Aim: How can we eliminate the incorrect answers to select the best choice in listening? CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.9-10.5 Make strategic use of digital media (e.g., textual, graphical, audio, visual, and interactive elements) in presentations to enhance understanding of findings, reasoning, and evidence and to add interest. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.9-10.2 Integrate multiple sources of information presented in diverse media or formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively, orally) evaluating the credibility and accuracy of each source.
