Mettersi in proprio (MIP) Start Up Your Own Business Support services to enterprise creation Ms. Tessa Zaramella www.mettersinproprio.it

Summary MIP is a Metropolitan City of Turin (former ‘Province of Turin’) initiative set up in April 1994 within the contribution of SPEC community programme. Since December 2002, MIP is funded by the European Social Fund, the Piedmont Region and the Italian Ministry of Labour. This allows to increase and complete the services and realize a territorial network of public desks dedicated to enterprise creation.

Summary The service, initially structured as an information desk, has evolved into an organized process of accompanying measures, support to the elaboration of business plan and mentoring after the start-up phase. Within the Piedmont Region’s new Operational Programme of European Social Fund 2014-2020, “MIP” becomes the name of the whole integrated regional network of desks and services able to support would-be entrepreneurs.

MIP Process Welcome meetings: first meeting with a tutor to illustrate the business idea and to get advice on how to convert it into a business project Accompanying actions: follow-up to assess the project’s feasibility and to work out the business plan. Meetings with experts (technical, marketing, legal-fiscal consultants, etc.) Mentoring: consultancy after the start-up phase for a maximum of 20 hours over a period of 24 months; periodical meetings with “mentors” and consultants.

MIP Process Validation First contact Pre start-up consulting phase Business plan Validation Start-up Tutoring

Working Methodology: the Business Plan The Business Plan is a document describing in detail an entrepreneurial project It allows to assess the technical and financial-economic feasibility of the project It illustrates the purposes, the timeframe and the amount of resources needed to implement the identified business model 6

Some figures about MIP (June 2015 – July 2016): Around 3,200 contacts; More than 1,600 would-be entrepreneurs following accompanying actions; More than 100 business plans validated; More than 80 enterprises created. Some Figures
