Snowshoe Hare By Mrs. Stancil

Habitat Conifer Forests Aspen, cedar and spruce swamps found in New England, Alaska, Minnesota, Michigan, Montana Places with cold winter season and mild summer season

Diet In the summer snowshoe hares eat grass, ferns and leaves. In the winter they eat twigs, bark from trees and buds from flowers. If few plants are available, they may eat dead rodents. Snowshoe hares are omnivores because they eat plants and animals.

Food Chains Pine seedling -> Snowshoe Hare -> Red Fox -> Wolf

Physical Adaptation White fur helps the snowshoe hare camouflage it in the snow from predators Large hind feet help the snowshoe hare move easily in the snow

Behavioral Adaptation Snowshoe Hares feed at night so that they can hide from predators during the daytime Snowshoe Hares do very little in the winter so they can conserve energy because there is not a lot of food available.

Adaptation Alternatives Without white fur, it could protect from predators by hiding in burrows during the day. It could feed early in the morning before predators wake up instead of at night.

Human Effect Explanation of something that humans do that effects your animal’s ecosystem and how that effects the ecosystem. Be specific!

Human Effect Solution Explanation of something that can be done to eliminate or reduce the effects of the human action. Be specific!
