Sustainable Hybrid Generator Portable unit comprised of three individual and interchangeable components: a Micro VAWT, Micro Water Turbine and PV Array BY: Kyle Richert And Nathan Hedrich
Purpose This ambitious project provides a source of portable electric power for camping, tailgating and other outdoor events. It aims to convert solar, wind and hydro methods of producing power at your disposal. The goal is to provide 12 Volt and 110 Volt output but at low Amps for things such as LED lighting, small fans, radios, phones and other modern electronic needs.
Solar Power 4 – 6 Volt, 9 Watt, 1.5 Amp panels Two panels connected in series for 12 Volts Two 12 Volt connected in parallel for 3 Amps Automated for rotation for max sun collection
Variables/Challenges Programming auto rotation Photo eye Motor Brackets Overall construction and logistics
Wind Power Collapsible frame and weather resistant fabric Attached directly to gear box on top of generator
Variables/Challenges Durability and functionality of materials Fabric design for maximum production - surface area Rod design Logistics of for easy attachment/detachment
Water Power Classic water wheel design for rotation Double function as part of transportation Low density, structural durability Rod design
Variables/Challenges Rod design for expansion without loss of rotation Wheel design strong enough for transportation and rod connection External connection to gear box/ Lockable Reducing torque on gear box
Gear Box Design for dual purpose – wind/ water applications Transfer rotation to armature
Armature and Stator Design for maximum efficiency Researching single vs dual systems
Battery Bank Light weight/ weather proof Single battery vs multiple batteries/Configuration Type of battery – Flooded/ Gel/ AGM Battery monitoring system Regulation of system
Monitoring System Interface Allows user to see real-time SOC/ DOD Power production vs consumption Programming the interface Cost analysis of components
Inverter DC to AC 120 V 10 Amps (goal) Circuit breaker
Timeline of Deliverables October 7th - 28th – Complete comprehensive mock-up of solar panels, size parameters, needed input-output, wiring, cost-analysis, efficiency. November 1st – 14th – Comprehensive mock-up of wind turbine with respect to gear box, fielding materials, sizing, functionality, cost and output efficiency. November 15th – 29th - Same with water turbine, size, materials, rod design, cost and contributive effectiveness. During this time, research and development will be applied across the board, while core focus is on the components producing energy to the system.
