ALL 8th grade students will be pre-registered for Eastlake HS Please note… Applications will be available, starting Monday, October 30, 2017 Applications due to counselors by Friday, January 6, 2018 (no exceptions) Acceptance or denial letters Friday, February 16, 2018 Transportation will be provided from the home campus middle school to and from the Magnet Program *If you or your child decide NOT to attend the Magnet Program, please notify campus counselor. Otherwise, there may be complications during Freshman registration. ALL 8th grade students will be pre-registered for Eastlake HS November 1, 2017 & March 6, 2018

What is House Bill 5? STEM Business & Industry Public Services Reduces the number of STAAR/EOC tests to five: English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology and US History New attendance requirements: If a student is not in attendance 90% of the time, student will receive “LOC” instead of a grade and will receive no credit until the LOC contract is completed. Requires students to graduate under the new graduation plans: All 8th grade students must choose an ENDORSEMENT. This is the plan that students will choose to determine his/her course of study in high school. Endorsements are similar to a college major. They are as follows: STEM Business & Industry Public Services Arts & Humanities Multidisciplinary

Dual Credit 2017-2018 Freshmen entering high school Fall 2017 are eligible to take Dual Credit classes What are Dual Credit classes? Dual Credit classes allow students to earn college credit while completing a high school diploma.

Dual Credit… More details… All 8th grade students will apply to El Paso Community College on November 6 February 5 PAAM window begins, all 8th graders will take the PAAM. The PAAM are practice sessions that prepare students for TSI. April 2 TSI window begins, all 8th graders will take the TSI. The Texas Success Initiative is an exam that determines a student’s eligibility. TSI goal score is 351.
