Figure 1 Histograms represent the short-term (within half-hours) mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) variabilities in three groups of patients with different 24-hour MAP values. Data shown as mean±SE. Left to right: mean±SE ages of the three groups were 39±3, 40±2, and 45±2 years. Figure 2 Absolute values and variabilities of MAP and HR during day and night when patients were asleep. Means±SE from the same three groups of subjects of Figure 1. Figure 3 (Left): Histograms represent short-term (within half-hours) MAP and HR variabilities in two groups of patients with ages, respectively, less than 38 years and greater than 48 years. In former group mean age was 30±1 years (range 16 to 38) and in latter was 51±1 years (range 48 to 65). Average 24-hour mean arterial pressures and heart rate of two groups were, respectively, 110±4 mm Hg and 78±2 beats/min, and 117±4 mm Hg and 77±2 beats/min. Figure 4 Histograms represent short-term MAP variabilities in three different series of hypertensive subjects studied before and after administration of three antihypertensive drugs. Data shown as means±SE. CHEST 1983 83, 317-320DOI: (10.1378/chest.83.2_Supplement.317) Copyright © 1983 The American College of Chest Physicians Terms and Conditions
