If this is the answer, what is the question? Answer = 56% of young people. Question = What percentage of young people say they have been bullied online?

Bullying Learning Objective: To continue exploring the issue of bullying. I can understand how people can be bullied online and the law surrounding this. I can understand the effects of cyberbullying and how it feels. I can creatively campaign against bullying.

Newsround Special – cyberbullying What is cyberbullying? Group 1: How would you explain cyberbullying to someone who hasn’t heard of it before? Group 6: How can people move on from being cyberbullied? Group 5: What can people do if they are being cyberbullied? Group 2: How does it feel to be cyberbullied? Newsround Special – cyberbullying Show the newsround special on cyberbullying. When students have finished watching the program divide them into 6 groups and allocate them a question to discuss. Then number students 1-6 and put them into new groups, i.e. number 1s on table 1, number 2s on table 2 and so on. Students need to share the discussion they had with their original group with their new group. Group 3: Why do you think cyberbullying has become so common? Group 4: How does cyberbullying affect people? http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/26136189

Cyberbullying and the Law Anyone who makes threats to you on the internet could be committing a criminal offence. It's against the law in the UK to use the phone system, which includes the internet, to cause alarm or distress. It could also be against the 1997 Harassment Act. If threats are made against you then it's essential you confide in your parents, or someone you trust so that they can make a complaint to the police. If you can't print out the threats use the "print screen" button or snipping tool to take a snapshot of the computer screen and then save that somewhere safe. Or if you have a phone or tablet, use the screenshot function and keep these images safe. Make sure students are aware of the law surrounding cyberbullying. Also remind them that anything they write or post online can be recorded.

Bullying Learning Objective: To continue exploring the issue of bullying. I can understand how people can be bullied online and the law surrounding this. I can understand the effects of cyberbullying and how it feels. I can creatively campaign against bullying.

Anti-cyberbullying logo and slogan You are going to create a logo and slogan against cyberbullying. Green and Gold e-refs for amazing effort and creativity! If you have time you could create a gallery of logos and slogans so the class can see each others’ work. You could give them each a post it note for them to stick on someone else’s work explaining why they like it.

Bullying Learning Objective: To continue exploring the issue of bullying. I can understand how people can be bullied online and the law surrounding this. I can understand the effects of cyberbullying and how it feels. I can creatively campaign against bullying.

Before you go… Before you post something online or send a message think about these questions. Remind students that social media is there to be enjoyed as long as it is used in the right way. Encourage students to think of these questions when they are posting online to ensure this can happen. Imagine what social media would be like if we all asked ourselves these questions!
