Academic Goals and C.L.E.P. 2011-2012 Bixby Middle School

Academic Goals 1.) Increase our 7th grade Reading and Math OCCT scores by 4% as compared to the 2010-2011 scores. 2.) Maintain or improve the percentage of student’s scores on OCCT in Science, US History, Geography, 8th grade Reading and Math as compared to the 2010-2011 scores.

Actions to Achieve Goals Continue using Ruby Payne strategies. Each Core PLC is generating Benchmark tests for all subjects through USA Test Prep. Each PLC is collecting and interpreting the results from Benchmarks in their subject area. Teachers take results back to the classroom and implement differentiation through research based strategies. Elective PLC is meeting with all Core PLC’s to take a strategy back to the Elective PLC. Professional Development-A different strategy each week from staff members.

Actions to Achieve Goals Teachers use before and after school to remediate and re-teach students. We are offering tutoring to the 4 core classes after school one day a week. Continue to implement research based strategies by instructional coaches and teachers through PLC meetings.

Provided the USA Testprep program for teachers in core subject areas. Goal 1: Provide quality curriculum and instruction that prepare all students for the future in a technology based society. Continued utilization of our district’s website to communicate classroom plans with our parents. Provided the USA Testprep program for teachers in core subject areas. Continue to add Smart Boards to classrooms which provide an interactive use of technology for the students.

Held student forums so all students are aware of the expectations. Goal 2: Provide a safe and caring learning environment for all members of the school community. Held student forums so all students are aware of the expectations. Send staff members to the district safety meetings. Worked with PTO on more intensive bullying curriculum.

Goal 3: Attract and retain qualified, competent, caring teachers and staff members. Facilitated weekly PLC meetings in order to support the professional growth of our staff. Encourage a different staff member to share a strategy with the entire staff. Used the instructional coaches and Director of Secondary Curriculum for a presentation to all staff as a refresher on Ruby Payne strategies.

Used the ConnectEd system to communicate with staff and parents. Goal 4: Communicate effectively with all members of the school community and encourage community involvement. Update the sign in front of the Middle School regularly to get information out to parents. Used the ConnectEd system to communicate with staff and parents. GTO hosted a “stuff a bus” event to get toys donated around the holiday season. Began using the district phone app to push information out to parents.

Goal 5: Achieve annual district financial targets. Over extended breaks we are powering down all unnecessary equipment to conserve energy. PTO was able to grant several thousand dollars in teacher grants with the money from the write-a-check campaign. PTO sponsored a very successful Dodge ball tournament and dedicated some of the proceeds to an anti-bullying program.

Goal 6: Provide quality facilities. Maintenance installed new flooring in several classrooms over the winter break. Continued to promote using the paper recycle bin in front of the school. Supported teachers and staff on submission of site work orders so we can keep all things in good working order in the building.
