Christian Teachings oN racial harmony What does this teach about racial harmony? From one man he made all the nations that they should inhabit the whole earth (Acts 17:26) Peter began to speak, ‘I now realise how true it is that God does not show favouritism’ (Acts 10:34) Love your neighbour as yourself (Luke 10:27) So God created man in his own image (Genesis 1:27) You are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28) The Parable of the Good Samaritan: Jesus used this to show we should look after and care for those who are different to us (Luke 10: 25-37) The Church of England stated in 2011: ‘As Christians we are called to seek the justice of the Kingdom of God.’ The Methodist Church has stated: ‘Racism is a sin’ Catechism of the Catholic Church: ‘God made all nations to inhabit the whole earth’ (360)

Muslim Teachings oNracial harmony I am the messenger of Allah to you all (Qur’an 7:158) And of His signs is he creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your language and your colours. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge. (Qur’an 30:22) O mankind, indeed we have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another (Qur’an 49: 13) Muslim teachings on racial harmony All people stand equal, like the teeth of a comb (Hadith Al-Bukari) All mankind is from Adam and Eve (Last sermon from the prophet Muhammad)

Modern Muslim Teachings oN racial harmony The teaching of the Qur’an does not say we should all be the same, it teaches us Allah made us all different and yet we are equal before him. All people have the same creator, the same ancestors and so should be treated the same. Prophet Muhammad showed that he did not discriminate against any race. Muslims should try to do the same. Everyone should be respectful of each other. If a person discriminates this is not respecting a person’s individual nature that was created by Allah and so racism is wrong.

Evaluation exam question: Part d) d) ‘If everyone where religious racism would not exist’ In your answer you should refer to at least one religion. i) Do you agree? Give reasons for your answer (3) ii) Give reasons why some people may disagree with you. (3)
