Canyons By: Gary Paulsen. At

Summary Brennan finds a skull while camping and he has a very strange connection to it. So, he researches the skull and finds out who the skull belongs to. Ag

Skull A boy named Brennan, his mom and her boyfriend go camping with 7 kids. Brennan finds a skull with a bullet hole in the forehead. Later on, he finds out that the skull belongs to an Apache Indian, Coyote Runs. Then Brennan finds out that the skull is somewhere around 100 years old. at

Characters There are two main characters in Gary Paulsen’s book “Canyons”. The two characters are two boys from two completely different cultures. They each face difficulties through out the story. The two characters will be explained in the next two slides. You will soon realize the differences between the two characters. ag

Brennan Cole Brennan is a fifteen year old who works very hard. His mother and her new boyfriend force him to go with them and a youth church group. This camping trip changes Brennan’s life forever. Brennan finds a skull with something mysterious on its forehead. The skull has a bullet hole on his forehead. He finds out that this skull is a boy whose name is Coyote Runs. . . Brennan then goes on a mission to return the skull back to Dog canyon because he had taken it home. Coyote Runs (the skull) seems to be sending him a mental message to take it back to Dog Canyon. at

Coyote runs An Apache boy, will soon take part in his first raid which will lead him into being a man. But sadly he will only be able to be a man for a short time because he dies by a bullet shot while riding a horse on the raid. Ag

Setting The book has mainly one setting which I think you may have realized is a canyon because of the title of the book, “ Canyons”. Dog Canyon is the name of the canyon. A lot of main events happen at Dog Canyon. So now we will teach you a little bit about Dog Canyon. At

Dog Canyon Dog canyon is the canyon in which the book takes place. This is where Brennan found Coyote Run’s (the skull). Dog Canyon is elevated 6,300 feet. Dog Canyon is located in Big Bend National Park. Ag
