Energy transformation. Law of Conservation of Energy The Law of conservation of energy says that energy is never gained or lost, it just changes form.
Heat = mass X change in temp X specific heat 1.10 g X 33 o C X 0.90 J/g o C = 297 J g X  T X 0.50 J/g o C = 5275 J 1.25  T = 5275 – divide both.

Energy Chapter 3

WHAT DOES THE TERM ENERGY MEAN TO YOU?

ENERGY IS THE ABILITY TO DO WORK. 1J = 1N x 1 m BECAUSE OF ENERGY... WE CAN JUMP, SING, DANCE, LEARN... WE CAN GENERATE ELECTRICITY WE HAVE CREATED TECHNOLOGICAL DEVICES PLANTS CAN GROW ENERGY IS THE ABILITY TO DO WORK. 1J = 1N x 1 m

Types of Energy Elastic Energy Electrical Energy Thermal Energy Radiation Energy Chemical Energy Wind Energy Sound Energy Hydraulic Energy Nuclear Energy There are many types of energy. Using your text book page 70 define each type of energy and list a few sources.

Hydraulic Energy Mechanical Energy

What is happening to the Energy? Transformation Energy Transfer: The movement of energy from one place to another. Energy Transformation: The changing of energy from one form to another. Hydraulic Energy Mechanical Energy Transformation Electrical Energy Homes and Businesses Transfer

Law of Conservation of Energy Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; it can only be transferred or transformed. The total amount of energy in an isolated system always remains constant.

Energy Efficiency Rarely are machines able to convert all of one energy into another. Some energy is always lost to the surroundings. Our goal in creating machines is to make them as energy efficient as possible.

Recall: Energy is measured in Joules, the symbol is J. Practice Question To perform work equal to 2,400J, a machine consumes 12,000J. What is the energy efficiency of this machine?

Practice Question #2 A device is determined to be 34% efficient in terms of energy consumption. Over one hour, the device is capable of an output of 1265 J. How much energy does this device consume over a one hour period?
