The tidal wave caused massive destruction to the village. When a distant volcano erupts, it cause a tidal wave. Tidal- having to do with the rise and fall of the sea

The sailors could find no wreckage of the ship that was lost at sea. Upon the beach where the village stood not a house remained, no wreckage of wood or fallen stone wall.
