Services in partnership Warminster Library Ruth: Regardless of whether it is a building, a leaflet, a website or a conversation, the same basic elements apply: An introductory space, so that you can be sure that it is the service that you want. Just as I told you which session this is and gave you the chance to leave, you need a safe introduction that provides you with a context. The main body of the building, leaflet or other service should provide the core of the information that most people need, generally about living with cancer. Finally, we need an option for further information – which may be the evidence base, a list of further sources of support or, in one of our services, a space where you can talk to someone or cry. This is a floorplan of our service within the public library in Warminster. It is one of our smaller services, but you can see that it contains the basic elements: when you step inside you come first to an introductory space; then the main service; and finally, if you need it, a more discreet space.

Influencing public policy Why? Joining up the pieces CILIP Manifesto ‘Fund and enable the effective co-ordination of health information so that everyone who needs it – patients, carers, doctors, nurses and planners – will be able to find the necessary information to meet their needs.’ ‘Fund and enable the effective co-ordination of health information so that everyone who needs it – patients, carers, doctors, nurses and planners – will be able to find the necessary information to meet their needs.’

Booklet - to Pathway – to Personalisation Lung biopsy This test involves taking a sample of cells from the lung for examination under a microscope. You may have it done during a CT (computerised tomography) scan, or with an x-ray, to make sure the needle is in the right place, You will have a local anaesthetic to numb the area. After this you’ll be asked to hold your breath for a few seconds while a thin needle is passed through your skin and into the lung. The biopsy is sometimes slightly uncomfortable, but it only takes a few minutes.
