Using a VLE at Induction Time Paul Kirk And Joel Benson Wales PG Deanery
Why Use a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Host Multimedia Content Your own, BMJ, Royal College etc Assess your group Formative, Summative Learners like good quality multimedia interactive resources Track use, maintain and report on a gradebook
Traditional induction All in a room, did they learn anything? How do you know? Online assessments in a VLE gradebook – course tutor/ Trust managers can see scores and who did what when etc. Need to recognise that Technology Enhanced Learning cannot replace all aspects – can be v useful to enhance and change the nature of face to face.
Standards If you use a VLE there re two vital things about e-packages They should be IMS compliant – can work in different VLEs and have metadata so are searchable in a content management system They must be SCORM compliant so that meaningful information from the learning package is sent to the VLE gradebook.
