Understanding the grant development approval process at FCS Learning Outcomes Understanding the grant development approval process at FCS Learning how to successfully develop grant applications Learning tips to refine Seed Fund applications

Seed Fund Overview and Resources

Carefully review any feedback from the Initial Application Seed Fund Tips Carefully review any feedback from the Initial Application Consider ways to differentiate your proposal Don’t use ‘education jargon’ Consider attaching quotes to your budget Make sure the items in your budget directly support your project plan Budget worksheet totals should map back to the totals in your Project Plan Table in question #3 Keep your word count reasonable Based on the Initial Applications, Seed Fund requests totaled ~$9M; however, only ~$4.5M is available to be awarded FEF saw a lot of proposals about PBL last year FEF board members are mostly business leaders, not educators Work with your bookkeeper on the budget All proposals will not be fully funded

Ask someone to read your proposal and score it using the rubric Seed Fund Tips cont. Contact Department of Research and Program Evaluation for assistance with program evaluation Ask someone to read your proposal and score it using the rubric Consider how you can implement your proposal with partial funding

Grant Champions Program Overview Participating in Grant Champions is an opportunity to build your grant development skills and secure additional funding for your school or department. The Office of Grant Development provides grant resources and consultative support to help you navigate the grant approval process and develop competitive grant proposals. As a Grant Champion, you should help your school or department submit at least one grant proposal during the school year. The time Grant Champions invest in the program will vary, from an hour a month to an hour a week, based on the needs of your school/department and the structure you develop.  Principals nominate Grant Champions for their schools. Grant Champions can be a resource to help your principal and SGC submit a Seed Fund application. Grant development is a transferable skill. You can use these skills in your personal life to raise funding for nonprofits where you volunteer.

Office of Grant Development Website We have a web presence on two sites: Office of Grant Development on the main portal Bookmark this site to access information on Grant Champions, forms, exemplars, etc. Office of Grant Development on the employee portal Bookmark this site to access the monthly Grant Alert Access the Office of Grant Development site from the district’s homepage: www.fultonschools.org Bookmark this site on both the main portal and the employee portal Show what is available on the webpages, but don’t go into detail

Grant Development Process Go to the Grant Process webpage on the main portal: http://www.fultonschools.org/en/divisions/strategy/Grants/Pages/Grant_process.aspx Grant Tools Grant Approval Forms

Grant Development Process Inform Principal or Department Head of intent to submit a grant proposal or intent to participate in a grant with another organization. Discuss grant objectives, alignment to strategic plan, grant budget, reporting requirements, roles and responsibilities, etc. Complete the Grant Approval Form (either paper version or electronic) Attach the grant proposal and grant budget to the completed Grant Approval Form. Route the Grant Approval Form with the attached grant proposal and budget to the appropriate administrators for signatures. Allow up to 3 weeks to obtain approvals prior to grant submission. Coordinate with the Office of Grant Development to facilitate securing signatures in the Central Office.

Correct answers result in “valuable prizes”! Questions: What is the estimated value of all the Seed Fund Proposals based on the Initial Applications? Name two Seed Fund tips. What is the estimated average value of Seed Fund awards for this round of funding? Where do I find the Grant Approval Form? If the value of the grant is less than $5K, who must approve it? What is the name of Susan Bacon’s grant consulting firm? Correct answers result in “valuable prizes”!
