WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP? B FULL TIME STUDENT A TV PROGRAMME C D WORKING IN AN INDUSTRY UNPAID WORK

D WORKING IN AN INDUSTRY Apprenticeships are primarily a job with structured training. Employers recruit throughout the year and Apprentices are paid a wage and have a contract of employment as well as an Apprenticeship contract

WHAT LEVEL IS AN ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP? B LEVEL 2 LEVEL 1 C D LEVEL 3 LEVEL 4

LEVEL 3 C Apprentices may be accessed via Traineeships which do not house formal vocational qualifications. Apprenticeships can be level 2 (intermediate), Level 3 (Advanced) or level 4 + (Higher) Ideally Apprentices progress from one level the next to work up from shop floor to Boardroom

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM WAGE YOU CAN BE PAID ON AN APPRENTICESHIP? £3.30 PER HOUR £150 PER WEEK C D £2.75 PER HOUR £10,000 PER YEAR

£3.30 PER HOUR B The Apprenticeship minimum wage is £3.30 per hour. Many Apprentices are paid in excess of this with an average wage of £170 per week. Apprenticeship opportunities encourage progress through achievement and this is reflected in pay increases at key milestones.

FROM WHAT AGE ARE YOU ELIGIBLE TO DO AN APPRENTICESHIP? 15 18 C D 20 16

16 D You have to be 16 to start an Apprenticeship but there is no upper age limit. What does change is the amount of funding available from Government to cover your training costs. This is most generous at 16-18 years.

WHAT is the Highest LEVEL OF APPRENTICESHIP? B 3 7 C D 5 4

7 B Apprenticeships are now found at level 7 (Masters). In the last year over 70 New Standards have been produced. The majority of these are at the higher levels. This is because industry is demanding higher skills from their workforce and skills needs for jobs are moving in this direction.

WHAT kind of person do you have to be to suit an apprenticeship? -Theoretical learner -Career path requires University -Ready for the world of work -Practical Learners -Independent -Problem Solver C D -Learns best in a classroom -Structured learner -Not ready for work -All of your friends are going to University and you want to join them

READY FOR THE WORLD OF WORK PRACTICAL LEARNERS INDEPENDENT PROBLEM SOLVER A Apprentices need to be ready for work with the right attitude and commitment if they are to succeed. Apprenticeships are not for those who cannot do anything else; they are competitive and stretching and provide a foundation of skills required for future progression and achievement.
