Managing Stress

What Is Stress A state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. Stress is a life event or situation that causes imbalance in an individual’s life ( positive or negative ). Stressors could be major life events, daily hassles, things from the physical environment, relationships with others, thoughts, feelings, or physical maladies that have negative impact.

Need to know about stress Stress can be both positive and negative Stress is a result of both inside the body and outside the body factors Everybody has the capacity to alter their stress reactions. The best way to understand the stress cycle is from a holistic approach (mind, body, environment) Todays world has more stressful stimuli than ever before

Resiliency Defined They are many definitions A pattern of positive adaptation in the context of past or present adversity (Wright & Masten, 2005). A set of inner resources, social competencies, and cultural strategies that permit individuals to not only survive, but recover, or even thrive after stressful events, but also to draw from the experience to enhance subsequent functioning (Stanton-Salazar & Spina, 2000).

Develop Your Personal Resilience Be patient and slow down Know when to ask for help Stress can be normal Create a plan

Develop Your Personal Resilience Write down a brief description of something in school that is a stressful or an issue for you at the moment. Recognize the stressful feeling and write down how that issue makes you feel. Press the pause button Shift your focus breath in for 5 seconds. Out for 5 seconds Ask what would be a more efficient and effective response to the situation and what can I control. Write down the first thoughts. Words or ideas that occur to you on your worksheet.

Develop Your Personal Resilience By Building Mental Toughness: They are many definitions is a collection of attributes that allow a person to persevere through difficult circumstances A personality trait which determines in large part how people deal with challenges, stressors and pressure.
