UNIT -4 AERODROME DATA

Syllabus Aerodrome data - Basic terminology – Data handling equipment – Aerodrome reference code – Aerodrome reference point – Aerodrome elevation – Aerodrome reference temperature –Instrument runway – Physical characteristics; length of primary / secondary runway – Width of runways – Minimum distance between parallel runways etc. – Obstacles restriction.

AERODROME CODE A system of code numbers and letters selected for aerodrome planning purposes in accordance with the characteristics of the airplane Aerodrome reference code number depend on Approach speeds and also on the wind span of Aircraft. Four categories designated as A,B,C, D, E bassed on approach speeds in Knots with a wing span of 48 to 260’

BASIC AERODROME DATAS Aerodrome Code Number of the City and type (NAT/INT) Geographical Co-ordinates- Bearing=12*59’N 80*E Runway Number 07/25; 3.658m Asphalt and No. of runways-1/2 Type of Flight Rules permitted (IFR/VFR) Location of Control Tower, Terminal Building, Hanger and services such as Bank, PO, Hospital etc

ADDITIONAL AERODROME DATA Airport address with tel and fax no and location. Operational Hours for met, customs, ATS,fueling, handling etc Handling Service facilities-for cargo and hanger Passenger facilities such as bank, post office, hotel, restaurants, Rescue and Fire fighting Apron & Taxiway

What is an Aerodrome chart ? Aerodrome reference code number; Runway bearings- in degrees magnetic and true; Runway length and surface type; Runway pavement strength rating/ load bearing strength; Runway and runway strip width; Runway slopes; Runway declared distances; Elevation of the mid point of runway threshold, for instrument runways; Runway turning area; Taxiway designation, width, surface type; Apron surface type and aircraft stand

Number Of Airports In India & Chennai Aerodrome Parameter 41 Domestic Airports 13 International Airports Chennai Airport Location Trisoolam;MSL=16m Bearing=12*59’N 80*E Runway 1. 07/25; 3.658m Asphalt Runway 2.12/30; 2.05m Asphalt/Concrete
