Comparing Graphs SOL 6.14

Bar Graphs Bar Graphs are good to use to make comparisons between two or more things.

Bar Graph What is the title of this graph? Are the axis labeled? What questions can you answer from this graph?

Line graphs Line graphs show changes over time

What is the title of this graph? What is the x axis labeled? What is the y axis labeled?

Stem and Leaf Plot Stem and Leaf plots are graphs used to make information easy to read and analyze.

What is the lowest number on the graph? What is the highest number on the graph? Does the graph have a key?

Circle Graphs Create a bar graph from the following data. 86 students were polled Step 1: Find your total/whole Step 2: Find how many different groups Step 3: Find the number of items/people Step 4: Plot the graph

Write down five facts about this bar graph

Now Let’s Create A Circle Graph Step 1: Find the total/whole Step 2: Find how many different categories Step 3: Find the percentages Step 4: Plot the graph

Types of graphs The results of a survey of sixth grade students indicated that 34% preferred math, 23% preferred science, 18% preferred social studies, and 15% preferred language arts. All other students either did not have a favorite subject or picked a connections/elective class. Which type of data display would be MOST appropriate for showing the data? A. bar graph B. circle graph C. histogram D. pictograph

Types of Graphs- Choose circle, line, or bar graph To compare the grades in Mrs. Belcher’s math class to the grades in Mrs. Holmes’ math class To show the percentages of students who completed their homework To show the high temperature for the months of January-May
