Historical background of the community and the school William Wharton DLA is located in the Montrose area in Houston, Texas. It was opened in 1929. Montrose is a demographically diverse neighborhood with renovated mansions, bungalows with wide porches and cottages. Montrose was first platted in 1911. It was Developed by J. W. Link and his Houston Land Corporation.

HISD at a glance Hisd is the largest school district in Texas and seventh- largest school district in the United States. It contains: 283 schools (10 early childhood schools, 153 elementary schools, 37 middle schools, 40 high schools and 43 combined schools).

Committees All committes are voluntary and some of them are: Fundraiser Committee- Plan and carry over fundraiser. Winter Program Committee- Plan and organize the Winter Program. PTO ( Parent Teacher Organization) (PTO) - formal organization that consists of parents, teachers and school staff. Its goals include volunteerism of parents, encouragement of teachers and students, community involvement, and welfare of students and families. SDMC (Share Decision Making Committee)-hold monthly meetings to discuss issues schools issues (achievements, goals attainment, etc.)

Enrollment/Growth/Achievement- HISD Enrollment It has 283 schools (10 early childhood centers, 153 elementary schools, 37 middle schools, 40 high schools and 43 combined schools). The district has 215,000 students: 62.1% are Hispanic 24.9% are African American 3.6% are Asian 8.2% are White. There are about 100 languages spoken and 75.5% of the students are economically disadvantaged.

Strengths and Weaknesses of students on state exams

Professional Staff 30% of the teachers on campus have their master degree. The average years of experience are 5 years. 90 % of the teachers are bilingual due to the fact that WWDLA is a dual language school.
