Presentation transcript:

Summary of Week 1 (May 23 – May 27, 2016) Project 7: Modeling Social Network Structures and their Dynamic Evolution with User-Generated Data from IoT Summary of Week 1 (May 23 – May 27, 2016) REU Student: Morzouk Lawal Graduate Mentor: Marzieh Edraki Faculty Mentor: Dr. Guo–Jun Qi

Summary of Project: Aim: Distill useful information from user-generated content like semantic segmentation from user generated images and videos. The model will then be pre-trained on Image-Net: A benchmark dataset with billions of images. Concepts required: Machine Learning, LSTM (Long Short Term Memory) and Deep Learning. Knowledge in Python, C++ and MATLAB.

Accomplishments so far.. Got Familiar with a new programming language, which was Python. Acquired materials from my graduate mentor; Marzieh, on Machine Learning and LSTM. Read a paper about the applications of machine learning.

Problems: Where to Begin? Locating Research papers on Machine Learning and LSTM. Figuring out how to conduct academic searches and how to best filter results. And Lastly, Finding my way around campus (Finding the HEC Building in particular!!).

Plans for Next Week: Read and summarize research papers on Machine Learning and LSTM. Study and hopefully create a code that can be used in or applied to Deep Learning. Finally, explore Orlando and UCF.
