Limbic System and Emotional Intelligence

Limbic System Composed of the: Amygdala Hippocampus Thalamus Hypothalamus

Amygdala emotion – particularly fear and aggression. Pathway to the limbic system for sensory impulses – smell processed –involved in recall of emotionally charged experiences PTSD

Hippocampus Hippocampus – store some kinds of memory. Converts STM to LTM – sends the memories to be stored into frontal and temporal lobe.  

Primitive Brain The parts of the limbic system are thought to be the most primitive part of the brain
