Student Council Meeting August 29, 2016

Student Council pledged allegiance to the American Flag in unison.

Invocation Collin led Student Council in the invocation. SW

Ice Breaker: Penguin power team Double Dream Feet Officers led the council in an ice breaker named “form bananas”. NM

Team Training Link Up! Leadership Expectations NM The council familiarized themselves with each other by exchanging information such as favorite foods and colors. The council also learned the importance of each member of the council by playing a game named “equal distance”. NM

Social Media Text “Follow @BoswellStuCo” to 40404! We will be using both Twitter and your E-mail addresses to contact you and remind you of various events. Our website with have our calendar and any other documents you might need to have. Jordan Gates explained to the council how to utilize the Boswell twitter for reminders and updates on the school. The website will now have a copy of the calendar and attendance sheets for students to access. SW

Committee reports Committee Head Search Publicity is still in need of a committee chair. See Ms. Keyes & Mrs. Newcomb for more information. Class reports Freshmen Sophomores Juniors Seniors Senior Sunrise SW There were no class officers present. The idea of a student council representative to collaborate with class officers was proposed. SW

Old Business Theme: Honoring the Past, Shaping the Future Goals: Unifying Boswell by Actively pursuing relationships with members, the student body, the faculty, and the community. Use communication and delegation to ensure that all members share responsibility in achieving our goals. Capitalize on individual abilities of members in order to utilize committees to their full potential and efficiently organize, and carry out all objectives Coordinate projects with other clubs, organizations and schools to support each other in our endeavors. Address major school issues by providing positive alternatives? Involve more students in student council in order to represent a cross-section of the school. Achieve the highest possible honors awarded on the state and national levels on the state and national levels and seek out additional opportunities to lead on all levels. Officers talked about their experiences at summer workshop. AR

Membership Drive August 29-September 9 More representatives from the entire student body! Applications will be available from Mrs. Newcomb and Ms. Keyes in our classroom and the leadership room (A-104) Due Sept. 6th Jordan described to the council how the council would put on a membership drive to branch out to the student body in hopes to expand the council and it’s connections with other organizations.

Howdy Week August 29-Spetember 2 Sign Ups will be on Sign Up Genius: http://goo.gl/NPbvbC Please bring them to the next meeting on the August 15. Monday – Fish for Fish (Large bags of Swedish Fish, Snack size Ziplock bags) Tuesday – Save a Sophomore (Individually wrapped Lifesavers) Wednesday – Jokin’ with the Juniors (Individually wrapped Laffy Taffy) Thursday – Sovereign Seniors (Hershey Kisses, Burger King Crowns) Friday – Stay Cool Boswell! (Handout Popsicles after school to all Students and Staff) Following the Meeting we will be stuffing Swedish Fish in bags! Sign up to handout items during lunches! Sydney explained the purpose of fish week and what the purpose of each day was. She also explained how by participating in Howdy week by either donating needed candy or distributing it would be rewarded with points.

Community service Opportunity Comanche Springs needs volunteers to tutor Seniors with 8th period off Ms.Keyes explained how Boswell’s first pancake breakfast would work and students were encouraged to sign up to cook and bring needed items using “sign up genius”.

Water Bottle Collection We need a BAZILLION empty water bottles Starts now! Ends sept. 16th We also need beans Jordan explained how after the pancake breakfast the council would help teachers with setting up their new rooms and help them with any other tasks they may need completed.

Fundraisers Telethon: Homecoming Donation Letters September 12 – 10 names and numbers who you think will donate $25. September 26 - Telethon Homecoming Donation Letters Collin explain the first aid kit fundraiser to the council. Ms.Keyes explained to the council how our first telethon would work. The idea of a car wash and restaurant nights were discussed. AR

Jordan then announced the next meeting, first day of school, and reiterated how the council should follow the twitter. Jordan also explained how the t-shirt designs were not yet final but they would be before the next meeting so council members should bring $15 to the August 15th meeting to order their t-shirt.
