Year Group Expectations Primarily we want this to be an enjoyable year for your child and one which builds on the work that has been done by previous year groups. Firm belief that if your child is happy they will perform better. Y6 – obvious pressures Testing Transition to High School Residential Physical and emotional changes
Year Group Expectations We want to make Y6 a unique year for your child Independence is vital Children need to be responsible – bring in their books, homework (record in diaries), correct equipment to lessons Encourage children to ‘think’ for themselves and become more independent
PE is every Friday for both 6D and 6F. Games/Art will be on Tuesday for both classes. Outdoor Games kit and art shirt needed each week. Fitness Friday Appropriate kit Time4Sport – 20 minute high impact session Please ensure that ALL clothing and equipment, including PE kit, is clearly marked with your child’s name. It is helpful for children to keep their kit in school for the week. Take home Thursday afternoon and return on Monday. Lost Property boxes At the end of each half term all unclaimed, unnamed items go to the lost property box on the stage in the KS1 Hall. Forest Schools All children will take part in 5 weeks of Forest School sessions. They will need waterproof clothing and footwear on Tuesday (class 6F) and Friday (class 6D)
Creative Curriculum As before as many cross curricular links as possible to embed the learning. Our first topic will be: Step into Benin Our topics will incorporate: Pupil involvement / Parent input School Visits - Flexible Maths topics every day. - Weekly French session from Mrs Burton - ICT Agreement Form -English and Maths will be set according to ability however these groups can change throughout the year
Homework *Small projects to link with Topic *Reading – 4 signatures (own book or class text) *Learning the weekly spelling rule *Take away homework – children will be given a pack of activities which will be completed over a half term. Activities will be English, Maths or Topic based. Your child can earn team points for each activity completed.
SATs Throughout the year children will be continually assessed and we will have fully prepared your child for the SATs in the week commencing 8th May 2017. Children will complete: Reading Test (1 paper) SPaG (2 papers : spelling and punctuation and grammar) Maths (3 papers : x2 reasoning and x1 mental arithmetic)
Parents’ Evenings Autumn and Spring Terms (with your child) English and Maths mini-report given before Parents Evening Written Report in Summer Term.
Behaviour in our Class and School We expect a good standard of behaviour in the classroom and on the playground. Rewards - Team points, choice time, activity mornings, RED SHOE award, Golden Book. If behaviour falls below expected standards there are policies in place within the school, which are: Choice time minutes are withdrawn Quiet room – non attendance results in a Friday lunchtime detention Temporary loss of position Bullying – We have a strict anti-bullying policy.
