A NATIONAL CLINICAL STRATEGY FOR SCOTLAND Seeks to set out a broad direction for change to help the NHS in Scotland meet the challenges ahead, with its partners in local government and the third and independent sectors Stronger primary care across Scotland should and will be delivered by increasingly multidisciplinary teams, with stronger integration (and where possible, co-location) with local authority (social) services, as well as independent and third sector providers The impact of the clinical team will be enhanced by collaborative working with social care staff, and increasingly by signposting patients to third sector organisations An approach that is anticipatory, plans for crises, and uses voluntary and third sector input to develop the support and social integration that helps improve the experience of illness, and improve outcomes

Now …with even less money available, … there is an urgent need to identify how the third sector can be engaged more effectively. Work is needed towards developing forums for communicating and developing ideas around services and their delivery which are user-friendly for all stakeholders, built on platforms of mutual understanding of the increasing pressures on resources and its effects on all sectors. There are areas in which third sector activities complement and directly support work towards meeting the healthcare Quality Outcomes ambitions for Scotland. Building on this hard work will be essential in moving forward with the ambitions for better services for Scotland.
