Sentence Analysis Can you spot the nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions and articles? To help drum the parts of speech into the children I have created a series of Powerpoints: I show a sentence, pick a word and on their small whiteboards they identify what it is. Quick and simple, the kids like it and is easily adapted.
The sly cat quickly jumped over the fat dog.
A huge rocket violently crashed into the blue planet
Silently the evil wizard cast a mean spell.
On the large table, sitting silently, was a huge beetle.
Above the small house, a beautiful eagle soared majestically.

Noun A thing or object
Adjective Describes a noun
Describes the verb. Usually ends “ly”. Adverb Describes the verb. Usually ends “ly”.
Verb A doing word
Article “The”, “a” or “an”
Where something is – in, on, under etc Preposition Where something is – in, on, under etc
