WORLD WAR II: PROPAGANDA

Propaganda Spreading of ideas or beliefs that help a particular cause but hurt an opposing cause

By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell-- and that hell is heaven. The greater the lie, the more readily it will be believed. Adolf Hitler quote from his book Mein Kampf

There were Four Main Kinds: US propaganda There were Four Main Kinds: Fear Rationing Production Victory Pay attention to the colors used in the posters. Yellow and red force the eye to focus on those colors. Blue is a common color in “victory” posters

Your Assignment: Create a propaganda poster, poem, song, or story dealing with World War II Include a description of your project in paragraph form, explaining WHY it is propaganda. Include the year it would have been made as well The project must persuade one group against another group or somehow show how US citizens can help the war effort

Guidelines: BE CREATIVE!!!!!! Posters must be at least 11” x 14” in size Songs/poems must be of “reasonable” length, and may be recorded on tape or orally presented Stories must be at least 40 lines long ALL projects MUST be appropriate and MUST deal with World War II Think of “if/then” statements for slogans. For example, “If you don’t ration, the Germans win” or “Buy war bonds to keep our boys fighting.”
