What Can I Do? Focus Area: Democratic Party

Process: Decide who will be the lead contact to meet Dem County Chair/Political Director and gather information. Recommend County Admin Liaison or County Admin. Find out who your Democratic County Chair is. http://www.njdems.org/our_party Contact and meet. Find out the vacancies for each municipality. Post vacancies and ask for volunteers. Present this at your next county group meeting/get-together. Volunteers will contact the Dem Municipal Chairs directly.

Talking to your Dem County Chair Goal: to make a connection and get to know him/her and the Democratic party. “My name is ______, and I’m a part of a 18,000-member group called Action Together NJ. We are new and were formed since the election. I want to get involved. We belong to a national network of over 750,000 members nationwide.” “Can we meet to discuss how Action Together <county name> members can help with volunteering positions?” Find out what the needs are (vacant committee seats, at-large volunteers). Get a list of Dem Municipal Chair names and contacts. Learn about your county and municipal government and politics.

When talking to a Municipal Chair “My name is ______, and I’m a part of a 18,000-member group called Action Together NJ. We are new and were formed since the election. I want to get involved. We belong to a national network of over 750,000 members nationwide.” “I would like to attend the Democratic committee meetings to get to know everyone. When is the next meeting?” “Do you have an email list that I can be added to?” “Are there any vacancies for committee members?” “What needs do you have that I can help with?” (Offer your county ATNJ network of volunteers.)

If the Democratic Municipal committee is full: Go to your municipal page and find out all the boards, committees, and commissions available to serve. Attend the next municipal/town board meeting. Some positions are appointed and vary by town. Find out the requirements and volunteer on the Board. Be kind, enthusiastic, and persistent. Get to know the current board members and volunteers and learn about your town’s government and keep abreast of what’s happening in government. Attend or run for the Board of Education.
