Mein Kampf In this section of the novel, entitled “Mein Kampf,” or “My Struggle,” Hitler’s book about his own struggles is ironically used to show us the struggles of two people who are very different from him: Liesel, and a new Jewish character- Max.

Your Task: In groups, choose either Liesel or Max. Using your book, find quotes, words, and phrases that demonstrate this character’s struggle. Piece these excerpts together in ANY order (mix them up and get creative!) to create a poem about the character’s struggle.

Exit Slip How is the theme of “struggle” important to Part III of The Book Thief? Explain in detail using evidence from the text.
