UNIT 7 Describing Appearance and Clothing Step One: Warm Up 1 Work in pairs. Try to describe your partner’s appearance and clothing.

UNIT 7 Describing Appearance and Clothing Step Two: Warm Up 2 Work in pairs to complete the questions. Try to reach an agreement on any question you have different opinions about. Make notes of your answers in the spaces provided.( page 58) 1 What types of clothes are currently in fashion? 2 What do you think the next fashion will be? 3 How important is each of the items when you buying clothes? Price, designer, the shop you bought it from, comfort, style, whether or not it is the latest fashion or color?

UNIT 7 Describing Appearance and Clothing Step Three Work in pairs. Listen to the conversation between a couple who are discussing what they should wear to a party they have been invited to. Then practise the conversation by reading it aloud with your partner. Read through the conversation twice, changing roles the second time. Underline where you cannot understand or have problem with.

UNIT 7 Describing Appearance and Clothing Step Five: Expressions and Their Meanings 1 7:30 for 8:00: Arrive at the first time given, but the meal will start at the second time. RSVP: Please reply to the invitation and say whether or not you will be going. Dress smart but casual: Neither too formal, nor too informal. Well dressed, but not too elegant. Jacket and tie: Well dressed but not necessarily a suit or evening dress. A jacket and a tie are essential for the man. UNIT 7 Describing Appearance and Clothing Step Six: Describing Appearance A well-dressed appearance: well-tailored fashionably dressed( follows the trend) elegant looks cool ( extremely fashionable) smartly kitted out General appearance: not smart not too casual very formal nicely dressed Items for clothing: a bit to elegant( long dress) too revealing ( short dress) too sexy ( short dress) nice (trouser suit) a bit too classy ( trouser suit) a smart pair of trousers scruffy jeans a plain short-sleeved shirt not too colorful (shirt) decent shoes baggy sports pants A badly-dressed appearance: untidy scruffy ( untidy and dirty) grubby ( dirty and needs to be washed) disheveled ( untidy hair and clothes) looks a mess down at heel ( with worn-out shoes; appears poor)
