9.2 Properties of Reflections

Vocabulary Reflection: Transformation that FLIPS a figure across a line. It is a mirror image with points the same distance from the line of reflection Line of Reflection: the line in which the reflection is over

Exploring Reflections Work on page 285 with your partner C. the x-axis D. Point A is 5 units Point B is 2 units Point C is 2 units E. Point A’ is 5 units Point B’ is 2 units Point C’ is 2 units F. They are the same for a point and it’s reflection 1. the y-axis 2. triangle A’B’C’ is triangle ABC flipped across the x-axis. triangle A’’B’’C’’ is triangle ABC flipped across the y-axis.

If the x-axis is the line of reflection, keep the x-coordinate and use the opposite of the y-coordinate. (x,y) to (x, -y) (x, -y) to (x,y) If the y-axis is the line of relfection keep the y-coordinate and use the opposite of the x-coordinate (x,y) to (-x, y) (-x, y) to (x,y)
