History The first humans that arrived in Ireland were the Mesolithic hunter gatherers in 8000BC. In 795AD the Vikings raided Ireland for the first time. In 1169AD the first Norman Knights landed in Ireland. In 1536AD King Henry viii decided to take over Ireland. The Penal Laws started in Ireland in 1691 and were very unfair on catholic people. World War 1 started in 1914 and the UK parliament passed the 3rd home rule act so Ireland could have a self ruling Government.

Irish Food Irish food is delicious and some look unusual! Corned Beef dinner, Bangers & Mash, Irish brown bread, Beef stew and Irish cream Bundt cake are all delicious Irish food and there are many more.

Irish Wildlife There are quite a few animals indigenous to Ireland, below are just a few:- Pygmy shrew. Red squirrel. Pine Martin. Red deer. Irish Grey partridge. Wood Mouse. Irish hare. Badger.

Irish Wildlife Hedgehog. Rabbit. Red fox. Irish stoat. Otter. 10 species of bat.

Landmarks Hear are Two famous Landmarks. Blarney castle. Blarney castle is a medieval castle in Cork. The Famous Stone of Eloquence also called the Blarney Stone is in Blarney castle.

Landmarks Ben Bulben. Ben Bulben is on of the most amazing rock formations in Ireland. It’s plateau overlooks Sligo town in Co. Sligo. At the top on a sunny day you can see Mayo.

Quick Facts Ireland is the only country in the world that has a musical instrument as it’s National symbol. Ireland is the 3rd largest island in Europe and the 20th largest in the world. Up until 1973 women in the public services were forced to retire once married. The longest place name in Ireland in Muchanaghederdauhaulia in Co. Galway. The Shannon airport became the worlds first duty free airport in 1947.

Quick Facts Newgrange was built in 3200BC. It’s 600 years older than the pyramids and 1000 years older than Stonehenge. Ireland’s 15 principal railway stations are named after the leaders of the 1916 rising.
