Reading Reading is hugely important and is an indicator of future success. Partnership between home and school. Our school vision – we want our children to become fluent, independent readers who enjoy books and read for pleasure. Encourage them to read daily to ensure their fluency and enjoyment of text continues. Children will have the opportunity to select books from our library. Children can read their favourite books from home. In school your children will be reading higher level texts and classics. DEAR : Drop Everything And Read. Children will be rewarded for reading 5 times a week . Recommended reading list.

Home school diaries These are the childrens’ organisers to develop independence. Our children will be expected to log their own reading and homework tasks. We will check the diaries weekly. These include times tables, spelling lists, childrens’ targets and other useful key information.

Spellings Each week different spelling patterns will be taught. These patterns will be shared on the VLE. Children will learn to spell using a range of strategies and activities. These can be found in their home school diaries. Our children will be encouraged to practise these patterns as homework too. In addition there is a list of words that the children are expected to know related to their age. There will be a word for the children to learn from the year 5/6 list ; a word for the week. Eg accommodation.

Homework Maths It is expected that as the children start year 5 they already know their tables. Rock stars MyMaths is set every Friday to be completed for the following Friday. Sumdog
